2018 Skin Resolutions

January is such an exciting and rejuvenating month! A time to reflect on your last year, and look forward to the next with new goals, resolutions, hopes, and drive. This year, like every year, we strive to take care of our health and our bodies, thus of course, protecting our bodies’ biggest protector, our skin! We want to set attainable AND maintainable goals that all of us here at the Muriel can hold each other accountable on, and our friends and fans too! Follow along for the happiest, healthiest skin you’ve had in your life! Get ready for the never-ending compliments.

1) First things first, STRESS LESS!

After the holiday madness it’s sometimes hard to unwind and come down from the stress that comes with over-crowded malls, roads, family time, etc.

Here are our tips for stressing less:

  • Get out and go for a run outside, join a yoga or pilates studio, cycle or ride your bike, just get moving and get those endorphins (a happy hormone) flowing!
  • Go on a hike or walk with a buddy
  • Take a bubble bath
  • Light your favorite candles
  • Engage in breathing and meditation exercises

2) Drink more WATER!

It is recommended to be drinking half your body weight in fluid ounces every day for the ultimate hydration. You will be shocked at how moisturized your skin is and how plump it looks! Plus you’ll notice an instant lift on your mood!

3) EXFOLIATE all of that dead skin!

We suggest at least once a week taking the time to make a DIY natural scrub and really getting all of that dead skin off. It will reveal a brighter, more even complexion.

Have you ever heard the phrase “good skin comes from within”? Well, it just so happens to hold some truth. A large percentage of how our skin appears on the outside has to do with what is happening on the inside, we’d say about 30% of how your skin appears is directly related to your diet. We strive to live by a clean, holistic diet. Nourishing rather than depriving. It’s all about balancing healthy fats with protein, veggies, grains, and antioxidant rich fruits.

Here are our top picks for superfoods that will make your skin look AMAZING!

  • Avocado
  • Salmon (ideally wild salmon)
  • Blueberries, Acai berries, pomegranates
  • Dark, leafy greans (Kale, spinach, swiss chard, etc)
  • Tomatoes
  • Walnuts
  • Oatmeal
  • Dark chocolate (Yes, that’s right!)
  • Red wine (Hello resveratrol!)

5) Good news… SLEEP MORE!

We’re not saying hit the snooze button until you’re running late for work, but sleep is definitely pertinent to your skin’s health. During deep sleep the rise in growth hormones allows damaged cells to become repaired, and without this deep sleep, your skin’s elasticity and vibrancy begins to break down over time.

Make your zzz’s a priority and try for at least 7 hours a night!

Okay, we might be a little biased here, but our favorite tip is to of course protect your skin every day by wearing sunscreen. 24% of signs of aging are caused by UV damage and sun exposure. Just think of how many years you can begin to shave off your skin if you start making SPF part of your daily skincare routine now.

Cheers to a bright 2015!
